About 23 Films and Director/Writer/Script coach, Jane Alexandra Foster
When I wrote and directed my first short film, ‘The Beginning of Light’, it sparked a passion for film that led to me setting up 23 Films. My attitude towards the moving image? It is a collaborative process, (as many wise people have said, it’s very much like herding cats) with each person expert in their own skillset and sticking to it, to make any story, or assignment fit together and come alive. I love movement, and thanks to a back ground in dance and athletics in my teens, I’m very happy with choreography, action and suspense. I aim for creative, strong stories and originality, whilst still keeping to universally understandable themes, but I’m not a strict genre writer. I write mixes of thrillers, action, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Supernatural; I write strong female characters because I’m a strong woman, but I also match them with strong male characters. I believe in British Film, and the great training we’re famous for, and in 2011 I got my MA in Screenwriting at Goldsmiths in London. I also have a Raindance Director’s Diploma.
I direct features, shorts, promos, commercials, and web projects. I’m happy working on many formats, and really like the challenge of tailoring each project to its own particular dramatic and budget needs. My first feature, GRACIE, has just been completed. It’s a micro budget film shot on super 16mm, using mainly available light, and it’s been a journey and then some, but totally worth it!! I’ve made several shorts, two of which can be found distributed on Amazon Prime, and I am co writer on the recently released supernatural chiller, ‘My Guardian Angel’. There’s a slate of feature projects in development, with two of these, ‘Day Six’ and ‘Aura’ being financed and packaged, with one spec script, ‘Kuanyin, also on offer.
